Each of these bowls is a unique, one of a kind piece. They are made from two pieces of clay – a slab and a coil. These pieces are attached by throwing them loosely together on either a kick wheel or an electric wheel. I then hand trim each one with a tool made from deer antler that I crafted for this purpose. When leather hard I will use a small amount of slip as an accent, sometimes drawing through the slip. When the bowls are fully dry I might add a little glaze to produce another focal point. Virtually all of these bowls are fired in the front of the kiln closest to the firebox, so their numbers are small due to the space limitations. They are all fired in the green state. These bowls are fairly gestural because of they way they are produced – the sides are not straight, the lip undulates, and they might not even be round. They generally range in size from about 6 ½ to 5 inches in diameter and about 3 to 3 ¾ inches tall.
